Bulldogs coast to victory against Washburn, 15-4

Hampton- After a tough loss at home to the North Greene Huskies on Tuesday night, the Hampton Bulldogs were looking for redemption as they played host to the Washburn Pirates two days later on Thursday evening.
The late-week contest at Scotty Bunton field was a doubleheader with each matchup being a five inning affair. In the first game, the Bulldogs laid a beating on the Pirates to win by a score of 16-3.
The second of the two-game series started off with a scare as the Pirates would load up the bases, only for their chances at a run to be diminished when a ground ball up the middle would be perfectly fielded by the Bulldogs’ Josh Whitson to keep a zero on the board.
In the bottom of the first inning, Hampton made their way to home plate for their first score of the contest when Parker Henry put down a bunt to bring home catcher Morgan Lyons.
The Bulldogs would continue to add to their total in the home half of the second, starting with an infield single from Chance Point to bring home a runner in the form of McKinley Kuhn, followed shortly by a fielder’s choice by Morgan Lyons to bring in another.
Hampton’s big inning would get even bigger when Josh Owens sent a ball into left field, a single that would bring two more Bulldogs across.
Kuhn contributed once again in the frame, this time bringing in two runs of his own with a blooper to right-center field. Heading into the third inning of play, the Bulldogs were up big, 7-0.
The Pirates finally got on the board just before the conclusion of the top half of the third with a sacrifice fly hit by James Linhom would bring home a run in the form of Riley Munsey.
Lyons got things going for the Bulldogs in the third, legging out a double to left field that would bring one runner across. Another run came across due to a wild pitch and Henry sent two more home with a triple to left field.
But it did not stop there as Henry completed his round trip, coming across the plate for one more run before things were said and done. After three the Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders, up 12-1.
And in the home half of the fourth, Austin Miller would get in on the action, sending a line drive to left-center field, bringing three more runs home and increasing the Bulldog advantage to 15-1 with one inning remaining.
With the Pirates only being able to answer for three runs in the fifth, the Bulldogs still didn’t have trouble claiming victory by a final decision of 15-4.
