EHS splits with Unicoi Co. in tennis action

The Elizabethton Cyclones played host to the Unicoi County Blue Devils for tennis action at the Elizabethton High School complex with the teams splitting matches in boy’s and girls’ play.
In boy’s action, the Cyclones squeezed by the Blue Devils in tight action winning 5-4.
In one-seed action, Elizabethton’s Elijah Smith came out to win in dominating fashion taking his match 8-2 over Unicoi Co.’s Abibi Chanda.
Kaden Street of the Cyclones followed in like fashion taking down Unicoi County’s Sathvik Ramu with an 8-3 win. In double’s play, Smith an Street also was victorious over Chanda and Ramu.
In three-seed action, EHS player Carson Peters found the waters troubled as the senior dropped a 2-8 contest Zach Hopson. The Cyclones Alex Taylor had to go extra games with Blue Devil player Daniels Shults winning in tight fashion 9-7.
Elizabethton’s Nicholas Wilson came out and beat Matthew Sutphin with relative ease taking his match 8-2 over the Unicoi player.
Finally in singles at the six seed spot, the Cyclones Caden Miller came up on the short end of the rack as Blue Devil six-seed Javier Castellon defeated Miller 2-8.
In doubles play, Peters and Wilson fell to the Blue Devil’s Hopson and Castellon while Ethan Horton and Taylor fell to Unicoi’s Shults and Sutphin by a 1-8 score.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Cyclones had no answer for the Lady Blue Devils as the Unicoi took a convincing 7-2 final.
The only winners for the Lady Cyclones were Katie Lee over Unicoi’s Katie Hensley on a thriller 9-8 (11-9) win. Also, Karie Merritt and Alley Taylor teamed up to take an 8-5 win over Olivia Bailey and Ashley Edwards.
Elizabethton was shut out in three of their matches on the afternoon while winning only a total of eight games in their seven losses.
