It was a busy weekend filled with lots of diamond action both in baseball and softball after a soggy Friday washed out much of the action.
BASEBALL
Elizabethton….. 6
Rhea County….. 5
The Elizabethton Cyclones ran their early-season record to 3-0 with a dramatic walk-off single by Ashton Wilson in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Cyclones a 6-5 win over Rhea County.

Wilson laced the winning hit on the first pitch that he saw.

Rhea County scored four runs in the third and one in the fifth to even the score at 5-5.

Elizabethton totaled three runs in the fourth inning to take the 5-4 lead before Rhea County evened things up.

The Cyclones had nine hits in the contest as Bryson Rollins and Wilson totaled two hits apiece to lead the way. Jaden Anderson, Zac Workman, Gage Treadway, Cooper Tipton, and Cade Russell each added one hit apiece.

Three Cyclone pitchers took the hill in the game as Elijah Birdsong got the start working two and one-third innings as the senior gave up four runs on five hit with two strikeouts and a walk.

Rollins relieved Birdsong and tossed two and two-thirds of an inning giving up one hit while striking out five and issuing a base on balls. Anderson finished up the contest throwing two innings of two-hit baseball and giving up one run with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Cyclones dropped their first contest of the season after falling behind five runs in the third inning and having the uphill battle the rest of the contest falling by one to the Jeff County Patriots 8-7.

Elizabethton managed to even the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning but Jeff County added one in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth to go up 8-5.

Coach Ryan Presnell’s team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn’t enough at the end of the game.

The Cyclones rapped out seven hits in the game with Bryson Rollins and Gage Treadway collecting a pair of hits to lead ‘Betsy. Zac Workman, Ashton Wilson, and Cade Russell added one hit each.

Treadway and Workman had two RBI’s apiece.

Both teams had four errors each in the contest.

Happy Valley jumped out late in the contest and held off Unaka to take a 7-6 victory on Saturday.

With the game knotted at 5-5 in the top of the fourth inning, Lady Warrior senior Olivia Absher stepped to the dish and swatted a 2-1 pitch for a double plating two runs that gave her team a 7-5 lead.

The Lady Warriors managed to fend off the Lady Rangers to take the win. In the win, Happy Valley collected nine hits while Unaka had six.

Maddie Lingerfelt, Absher, and Cierra Southerland had two hits apiece on the day to lead the Lady Warriors to the win. Abby Holt, Laura Rice, and Blakelee Ollis each added a base hit in the win.

Holt was the winning pitcher as she allowed six hits and six runs. She fanned six Lady Rangers and walked one.

Sadie Shoun was the only Lady Ranger to pick up multiple hits as she went 2-for-2 on the day. Alana Parsons, Kendall Bare, Noelle Collins, and Kylie Blevins each added a hit for Coach Kenneth Chambers Unaka team.

Shoun took the loss from the pitching circle as she went the full five innings giving up the nine hits and seven runs while striking out six Happy Valley batters and walking only one.

Lakeway Christian….1
The Lady Cyclones took the three-run win over Lakeway Christian Academy behind another strong pitching performance from junior Madisun Pritchard.

Pritchard tossed six innings of softball allowing only three hits and one run. She struck out six Lakeway batters and walked only one in the game.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cyclone bats came up big rapping out eight hits in the game as Ember Jensen continued her early-season hitting with four hits in four trips to the plate.

Third baseman Maddie O’Quinn added two hits in three trips while Pritchard and Emma O’Quinn collected one apiece.

Katie Fultz took the loss in the pitching circle for Lakeway. She surrendered the four runs on eight hits over five innings striking out five and walking one.

The Lady Greene Devils came out smoking offensively as they chased Lady Cyclone starting pitcher Molly Johnson after only one and two-thirds innings of work as Greeneville put up seven runs on five hits in that span.

Maddie O’Quinn came in relief and threw the remaining three and a third inning of softball for Coach Kenneth Hardin’s Lady Cyclones. O’Quinn gave up four runs on six hits and stuck out one.

Elizabethton hit the ball well but couldn’t make it count on the scoreboard as the Lady Cyclones stroked 10 hits of their own.

Kallista DePrimo, O’Quinn, and Emma Pendergrass collected two hits to lead the Lady Cyclones. Madisun Pritchard, Cheyenne Poiroux, Johnson, and Mailey Ingram added a solo base knock apiece.

The Lady Rangers took what University was willing to give them as Unaka collected only seven hits but used 11 walks from Lady Bucs pitching to rout University in four innings, 20-1.

Leading the Lady Rangers at the plate was Saide Shoun who was 2-of-2 at the dish and drove in four runs on the afternoon. Centerfielder Kylie Blevins also was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Trinity Bowers, Alana Parsons, and Kendall Bare collected the other three hits for Unaka.

Bowers and Hailey Gilman worked two innings apiece from the pitching circle for Unaka as Bowers gave up two hits and one run with three strikeouts while Gilman only allowed one hit.

Unaka……………. 0
One would be deceived at looking at the score in this contest as Unaka and Unicoi Co. played a tight contest through four innings with the Lady Blue Devils led only 3-0 at the end of the fourth inning before Unicoi Co. ran wild in the top of the fifth scoring 13 runs to put the game on ice.

Unaka managed only four hits in the contest as Kendall Bare led the way with two hits in two trips to the plate. Trinity Bowers and Noelle Collins collected the other two hits for the Lady Rangers.

The Lady Blue Devils roughed up three Lady Ranger pitchers for the 16 runs on 11 hits. Unaka also committed eight errors in the game.

Daniel Boone capitalized on 11 base hits and the inability of the Lady Rangers to do anything with their eight hits to take a 10-1 win in a six-inning affair.

Trinity Bowers, Hailey Gilman, and Kylie Blevins banged out two hits apiece to lead the Lady Rangers offensively. Alana Parsons and Kendall Bare collected the other two hits for Unaka.

Kailey Wilson toed the rubber from the pitching circle for the Lady Rangers going the distance giving up 10 runs on 11 hits with three walks and no strikeouts.

In a contest that featured a pitching duel between Elizabethton’s Madsun Pritchard and Volunteer’s Emily Wyatt with the junior Lady Cyclone Pritchard getting the upper hand in this contest.

Pritchard gave up zero runs on two hits over seven innings striking out eight and walking only one Lady Falcon batter.

Wyatt was equally impressive allowing the single run on four hits over five innings striking out five Lady Cyclones while walking none.

First baseman Kallista DePrimo scored the only Lady Cyclone run while going 2-for-2 at the plate. Maddie O’Quinn and Molly Johnson captured the other two hits for EHS.

Happy Valley…..1
The Lady Warriors of Happy Valley jumped out front 1-0 at the end of the top of the first inning but it was downhill from there as the Lady Falcons of Volunteer took the lead 2-1 after one and ran off with an 8-1 victory.

Happy Valley had four hits in the contest as Olivia Absher went 2-for-2 in the game. Cierra Southerland was 1-for-2 and knocked in the only run of the contest for Coach Cody Hyder’s Lady Warriors.

Reagan Street added the final hit for HV in the game.

Abby Holt pitched the first four innings of the game for the Lady Warriors giving up seven runs on five hits and recording five strikeouts. Ella Marvel tossed two innings of relief to close out against Volunteer giving up one run on one hit.

Happy Valley….3
Happy Valley grabbed a 3-2 advantage at the end of the first inning but a two-run bottom of the third by the Lady Greene Devils push Greeneville to a tight-fisted victory that saw the Lady Warriors outhit Greeneville six to four.

If there was a difference it came in the field as the Lady Warriors committed five errors in the contest.

Olivia Absher and Reagan Street banged out two hits apiece to lead Happy Valley. Milligan University signee Blakelee Ollis added a hit and drove in two runs for the Lady Warriors.

Maddie Lingerfelt picked up the other hit in the game for Happy Valley.

In a contest that saw 18 runs and 15 hits, Daniel Boone dealt Happy Valley a 13-5 defeat as once again Happy Valley was its own worst enemy in the field committing five errors in the game.

Reagan Street and Laura Rice led the Lady Warriors offensively collecting two hits each.

Maddie Lingerfelt, Olivia Absher, and Abby Holt also picked up one hit apiece. Holt collected a pair of RBIs in the game.
