The Elizabethton Cyclones were looking to bring out the broom to make it a sweep over neighboring Happy Valley in Three Rivers Conference action at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark.

Behind the strong effort of starting pitcher Gage Treadway and a solid day at the plate by the Cyclones who rapped out 12 hits in the contest, the Cyclones took the game by an 11-1 score to run their record to 2-0 while the Warriors fell to 0-2.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when the Cyclones went to work.

Senior Elijah Birdsong juiced up a pitch from Carey Volkman giving the baseball wings as it flew over the top of the fence in left field for a solo home run to stake Elizabethton to a 1-0 lead.

Treadway followed with a single and took third on an error by Volkman. A Cooper Tipton ground out plated Treadway for a 2-0 Cyclone advantage.

Ashton Wilson continued to swing a smoking-hot bat as he ripped a double to right field. Cade Russell grounded out to second base pushing Wilson to third base.

A Jaden Anderson RBI single to right field brought Wilson home for a 3-0 Elizabethton advantage.

The Cyclones tacked on a solo run in the bottom of the third frame thanks to a Noah Rosato walk and an RBI double off the bat of Treadway to make it 4-0 Cyclones.

Happy Valley plated their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning.

Hunter Smith roped a double to center field to lead off the frame for the Warriors. Lucas Chausse chased Smith home when he blistered a double to right field to make it a 4-1 contest.

The Cyclones quickly recouped the run in the bottom of the inning and added three more to make it 8-1 ‘Betsy.

Russell and Anderson led off the frame with back-to-back singles and advanced a base on a wild pitch from Volkman.

A Bryson Rollins single to left field brought home Russell and Anderson with Rollins taking second base on the throw to the home plate trying to nab Anderson.

Rosato lined out hard to center field with Rollins tagging and advancing on the fly-out.

Zac Workman’s pop fly was dropped by second baseman Tucker Shoun allowing Rollins to score on the error.

Workman stole second base and took third base when the throw from Warrior catcher Pedro Colunga skipped past the bag. Birdsong added his second RBI of the contest when he stroked a single to center field.

After holding the Warriors scoreless in the top of the fifth, the Cyclones closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored three times to force the 10-run mercy rule.

A single by Wilson, a base on balls to Russell, and an Anderson single plated Wilson. Russell scored on a passed ball with Anderson working his way all the way to third base.

Rollins drew a walk and stole second base. A dropped third strike on a wild pitch to Rosato allowed Anderson to score the game-clinching run.

Treadway picked up the win tossing four innings of three-hit baseball allowing the single run while striking out nine Warrior batters and issuing no walks.

Volkman was hung with the loss giving up eight runs on ten hits over four innings. He struck out three.

Anderson and Treadway collected three hits each to lead the Cyclones offensively.
