Darrell Carter Guinn, 73, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly, March 1, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Earnest and Mary Birchfield Guinn.
Darrell served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He retired from Climate Controllers Heating and Air. Prior to that he worked at North American Rayon Corporation for 23 years.
Darrell attended First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest Guinn Jr. and Tommy Guinn.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Judy Simerly Guinn; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy Guinn (Jon) Whitson; special granddaughters, Reiley Grace Whitson and Emilee Reese Whitson; special nephews and nieces, Jill and Sydney Markland, Toby Guinn and Randy Guinn; his special neighbors, Kenneth Arney, Dennis Stout and Richard Crowe; and a special cousin, Bernice Lewis.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in the John Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton, with the Rev. Nathan Jennings and Dr. Alan King officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be Toby Guinn, Randy Guinn, Steve Tipton, Arnold Lane, Eddie Guinn Jr. and Steve Guinn. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Carter County Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Military Honors will be provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
