For the second time in Carter County girls basketball history, a girl has

scored her 1000th point before becoming a junior.

Unaka’s Lyndie Ramsey scored her 1000th point at North Greene on

Feb. 12 matching the record set by Leslie Campbell way back in the 1980s.

Angie Peters, Unaka’s all-time leading scorer scored her 1000th early in

her junior season.

“My future plans are to continue my academic and basketball career at

UNC,” said Ramsey.

“My goals are to get a degree in occupational therapy and to pursue

my dream.”

Kenneth Chambers, Ramsey’s head coach at Unaka, knows what a special

player that he has in the sophomore playmaker

.”I’m real proud of Lyndie. I’ve coached a lot of players over the years,

at her age she is the best scorer,” stated Chambers.

“I had good juniors and seniors but as a sophomore, Lyndie plays hard,
and she’s working on her defense to make her a better all-around player.

“She plays hard and has the will to win.”

There is someone that Ramsey always looks to for her inspiration and drive.

“I look up to my little brother since he has Down Syndrome and he cannot

play this sport,” she said.

“He brings so much joy to my life and he amazes me every day. My parents

are so independent and can do anything they put their minds to and are my

role models.

“I am truly blessed with great parents.”

Unaka has two regular-season games left and with a district win, will play

in the regionals.
