The Cyclones swim team opened their competitive season on Thursday night with a win over Cherokee and a tie against Volunteer.
Under the direction of head coach Jes Sutton and assistant coach Kelli Broussard, their season officially began on January 6th with practices thus far focusing on technique and conditioning.
Their hard work is paying off.
Susanna Digby won all three of her events with personal best times in the 50 and 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Kody Broussard won all three of his events with personal best times in the 200 and 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Elijah Smith also won all of his events with personal best times in the 50 and 100 free and the 100 breaststroke.
Personal best times were also recorded by Taylor MacDougall in the 50 freestyle, Cadie Digby in the 200 individual medley, 100 fly and 100 breast, and RJ Brewer in the 50 and 100 free and 100 back.
Prior to the start of the meet, senior Susanna Digby and sophomore Olivia Markley were named this season’s captains in a ceremony that emphasized their role in maintaining the morale and team cohesion among its members.
In order to maintain Covid-19 regulations, spectators were able to view the meet via live stream on the NFHS network in the high school commons area or from home.
The Cyclones’ next swim meet will be at home on February 11th against Sullivan East.
The meet will start at 6:00 pm.
