With the news about the steady decline in COVID-19 in the area plus an increase in vaccinations, the Elizabethton City School System on Thursday announced several changes for the school week beginning on February 1.
The first change is a result of a large number of school system staff who are scheduled to receive the second dose of their COVID vaccine early next week.
On Tuesday, Feb. 2, and Wednesday, Feb. 3, the school system will be operating on a virtual-only schedule. The change applies to all students at every school.
Students can pick up lunches on Tuesday at each school for all children ages 0-18 from 9:30-10 a.m. On Wednesday students may do the same in addition to the regularly scheduled bus delivery sites around town.
Students in Cohort A will report to school as scheduled on Monday, Feb. 1, on the current hybrid schedule.
Then beginning on Thursday, Feb. 4, all students in grades 6-12 will return to school on the same four-day per week schedule that was implemented prior to Christmas break.
This means that all ECS students on the Traditional Learning Track should attend school in person next Thursday and Friday and then resume in-person learning on a four-day schedule the following week.
Students are reminded that Wednesdays will remain a virtual day for all students for the foreseeable future.
The changes that were announced will not impact those students on the Distance Learning Track.
As a reminder, the announcement being made means that all students on the Traditional Learning Track will be attending school beginning on Thursday, Feb. 4, and will be attending in person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Parents or students who have questions about the schedule or lunch pickups should contact the office where the student attends school.
