Roy Gene Meredith, 90, of Jacksonville, Fla., went to his heavenly home on January 17, 2021, from an unexpected illness.
He was born in “Gap Creek”, Elizabethton, Tenn., on May 3, 1930 to the late Claude and Geneva Hyder Meredith.
Roy Gene studied engineering at East Tennessee State University. He was in the United States Army where he served in the Korean conflict prior to being Honorably discharged. Roy Gene enjoyed a lifelong career in Civil Construction and in 1987 partnered with his son to form Pipeline Contractors where he worked until his retirement in 2005.
Roy enjoyed attending and watching NASCAR events, fishing and cheering for his favorite team, the Tennessee Volunteers. His ultimate fulfillment was gardening, where he mastered cross pollenating of Lilies. He was also an extraordinaire of vegetables and loved to grow a garden.
However, his main love was his late wife Doris and his many grand, great-grands and great-great-grandchildren.
Roy Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Doris Clemons Meredith; son, Michael; daughter, Vickie; grandson, Jeffrey, and great-grandson, Carter; his parents, Claude and Geneva Meredith; brothers, Claude Jr., Lloyd and Ken Meredith; and sister, Margaret (Hoyt) Aldridge.
Roy Gene is survived by his daughters, Patty (Greg) Kane and Cathy (Danny) Wright; and son, Ron (Jo Ann) Denmark; grandchildren, Angel, Jennifer, Stacey, Melissa, Austin, Evan, Katy and Sara; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Jeffrey, Jared, Ryan, Luke, Shelby, Amaya, Mila, Jace, Ella, Piper, Tripp and Sutton; great-great-grandchildren, Izaiah and Jaxon; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held from the graveside on Friday, January 22, at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery in Orange Park, Fla., where he was laid to rest next to his loving wife.
