On Saturday, January 16, 2021, Janet Carol Hertzog Carnes passed away after a brief battle with COVID-19 at the age of 74.
Janet was born December 17, 1946 in Dutch Hollow, Pa. She graduated from Hempfield Senior High School, Greensburg, Pa., in 1966. Janet married John J. Carnes from Youngwood, Pa., that same year. Janet and John were married 46 years until John’s passing in 2013. Janet was a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City, Tenn.
Janet was the first of nine children born to Edward and Alice Ruth Stout Hertzog.
She is survived by the following brothers and sisters, listed here with their spouses: Ernest (Patricia) Hertzog, Cathy (Michael) Rose, Keith (Janet) Hertzog, Lee Hertzog, Lori (Brian) Spencer and Lisa (Joshua) Peters. Janet is also survived by a sister-in-law of a deceased brother, Debbie (Edward F.) Hertzog, and her mother-in-law, Anna E. (Wise) Carnes.
Janet Carnes was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Carnes; father, Edward J. Hertzog; and her mother, Alice Ruth Stout Hertzog. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and Edward Hertzog.
Janet loved her Lord, family, friends, and pets with all of her heart. She will always be remembered for her over-the-top generosity. Janet was a person with the very least who always wanted to give the most. Janet will also be remembered for her recognizable and infectious laughter which could be heard often and always above the sound of any crowd. Who could possibly resist laughing with her? We will all remember Janet as one who loved deeply, gave generously, and made us laugh. What a wonderful gift to give!
Janet requested that her family meet for a simple memorial at the home of her brother; in a wooded area, where family reunions were held and memories are made. We will honor Janet’s request at a later date when it is safe to gather.
Note: COVID is not “just the flu.” Please, wear a mask and follow all pandemic safety precautions.
