Maebelle Hicks, 80, of Hampton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Maebelle was born in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late Charles B. and Opal Tilley Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. “Bud” Hicks, and a brother, Charles J. Ward.
Maebelle retired from Inland Container Corporation after 44 years of service. She attended Friendship Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the church, cooking and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Greg Hicks and wife Rhonda of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Greyson Zane Hicks, Gregory “Little Bud” Hicks and Noah Ward Hicks; one great-grandson, Morgan Hicks; a sister, Ruth Carden of Hampton; and two brothers, Darrell Ward of Butler and Carl Ward of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Maebelle Hicks will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Reverend Danny Osborne officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Little Bud Hicks, Zane Hicks, Noah Hicks and Jonathan Greenwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Collins, Jamie Ward, Dale Hicks, Kale Ward and Kevin Ward. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in honor of Maebelle.
