Knox Catholic escapes Lady Cyclones

The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones made the road trip to Knoxville hoping to find that the luck of the Irish wasn’t in effect when they squared off against the Knox Catholic Lady Irish in basketball action.
However, just like in their other contests so far this season, the Lady Cyclones are in need of some luck of their own as they dropped a nip and tuck affair, 48-45.
The outcome of the game could have been very well signaled in the first eight minutes of the game as the Lady Cyclones stumbled out of the gate offensively scoring only two points in the first quarter while the home team flipped the scoreboard for 13 points.
Morgan Headrick found the only points of the opening quarter for Elizabethton.
Lady Cyclone head coach Lucas Andrews finally got the ship righted and the Lady Cyclones responded by dumping in 18 points in the second quarter to pull even at 20-20 at the break after holding Catholic to seven points in the stanza.
Headrick scored seven of the 18 points to help pull her team even. Lina Lyon was a contributor in the period scoring five points while Olivia Holly, Reiley Whitson, and Maddie Fowler chipped in two points apiece.
Sydney Mains led Knox Catholic in the half firing in 13 of the 20 points scored by the Lady Irish.
The final 16 minutes of play saw the Lady Irish play consist on the offensive end scoring 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters to hold off the Lady Cyclones who tallied 13 in the third and 12 in the fourth quarter of play.
Headrick finished with a team-high 19 points to lead the Lady Cyclones. Lyon also reached double digits with 10 points.
Torrie Roberts and Renna Lane added five and four points respectively in the defeat.
Holly (3), Whitson (2), and Fowler (2) closed out the scoring log for the Lady Cyclones.
Mains finished with a game and team-high 24 points to lead all scorers. Jaz Williams reached double figures with 11 for the Lady Irish as well.
