Cyclones leave Central ‘Snake’ bitten

Prior to their game with Central, the Elizabethton Cyclones hadn’t been able to have much floor time with some of their players who were just finishing up another state title.
One of those players was Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts who put his signature on the state title game by being named the MVP. When Roberts got home Saturday night from Cookeville, ‘The Snake’ asked his basketball coach if he could shoot some hoops in the gym to which Coach Lucas Honeycutt agreed.
Move forward six days and ‘The Snake’ made his first strike on the basketball court sting immensely as Roberts fired in 33 points against conference-foe Central to lead the Cyclones to a 83-59 thumping off the Cougars in what might be the final game played between the two at The Dickie Dome on the campus of Sullivan Central.
Roberts pumped in 17 of his total in the first half as Elizabethton built a 33-19 lead at the break.
Seth Carter played a big role in the opening half as well as he contributed seven points in the half while Brayden Phillips hit a deep three.
Barb had six points in the half for Central just to keep the game from getting too far out of hand.
Roberts didn’t miss a beat coming out of the locker room as he dumped 14 more points through the cotton in the third quarter to help the Cyclones score an amazing 28 points in the quarter.
William Willocks netted seven points as well in the stanza to help Elizabethton pull away. Nicholas Wilson and Bryce VanHuss added four and three points respectively.
The final period was just a time of clean up for EHS as they easily took the Three Rivers Conference win.
Phillips finished with double figures as well for the Cyclones with 10 points. Willocks finished with nine.
Carter (7), VanHuss (7), Wilson (6), Nate Stephens (3), Kaleb Hambrick (2), Dalton Mitchell (2), Will Churchill (2), and Caleb Franklin (2) closed out the scoring for ‘Betsy.
Barb and Arnold had 10 points apiece to lead Central.
