Herbert Gene Taylor, 77, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020, at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Herbert Charles & Lena Gertrude Peters Taylor. Gene was a 1961 graduate of Unaka High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation, Paty Lumber Company, CK Supply and retired from Cannon Roofing Supply. He had lived in South Carolina for 25 years before returning to Elizabethton in March 2018. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Brenda Joan Winters Taylor, by a daughter: Tonya Mullins, three sisters: Velma Taylor, Glenda Buckles and Dolly Taylor and a brother: Norman Taylor. Gene attended New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. He was a Mason & Shriner.
Survivors include his son Donald Taylor & wife Karen, Mooresville, North Carolina, a Grandson: Austin Taylor and a sister: Shelia Taylor.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2020, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and Rev. Nick Colbaugh officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. or Monday morning. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Shelia, Selena & Adam for the excellent care Gene received.
