When everything else fails, call time out, put in a full-court
press and tell your boys they must play the best five minutes of
basketball they have ever played before.
Maybe that’s what Coach Jeff Peters said when trailing by seven
with only four and a half minutes left in the game.
The strategy worked as Hunter held Keenburg scoreless the final
five minutes, going on a 12-0 run for a 39-33 win at Keenburg on
Thursday night.
Hunter started out strong with a 12-5 lead behind Brynin Repass’s
eight first-quarter points.
Keenburg settled down and outscored Hunter 14-5 in the second
with Gross and Holly scoring seven and five for a 19-17 lead.
Keenburg came out hot in the third putting 12 points on
the board to Hunter’s six.
The home team Tigers in orange pulled out to a 33-27 lead before
Peters took a time out to adjust.
From that time on, Keenburg was held scoreless while Hunter piled up
12 unanswered points for a 39-33 win.
Repass led Hunter with 14, Mason Wilson followed with seven, Elijah
Stines and Hunter Stevens scored six points each.
Gross led Keenburg with 13.
The Hunter ladies wasted no time in showing the Keenburg Lady Tigers
who was King of the Jungle with a 43-13 win.
Emma Taylor bombed the nets for 16 points to lead all scorers while
Kaylyn Dugger followed with 10.
Katie Markland was the high scorer for Keenburg with four points.
Hunter led 14-2 at the first stop and went up by 20 at the half,
22-2.
Coach James Pearson unloaded his bench and his younger player received
much playing time.
“I thought we played pretty well tonight,” said Pearson. “A lot better than we

looked in game one. We’re a pretty young, inexperienced team, so just being

able to play someone in a different colored jersey is big.

“I thought Emma ran the point well. Mollie did some good things from the

wing. Katlyn and Alexis are getting stronger and more confident in the post.

“Our big thing going forward will be improving the little things, like

rebounding, playing aggressive defense, seeing the floor better, finishing our

routine shots at the basket, and building some depth.

“I think if we can improve on those things, we will have a pretty good season.”

Hunter is now 2-0.
