Lady ‘Dogs pick up an all-around win over Lady ‘Horns

HAMPTON – The Hampton Lady Bulldogs were looking to change up some things in hopes of stimulating their offense and when head coach Bud Hazelwood came out in a full-court press to open the contest against Johnson County it seemed to have a big impact.
The Lady Bulldogs opened on a 9-0 run and then held off a couple of rally attempts by Johnson County to take a 67-48 win over head coach Leon Tolley’s Lady ‘Horns.
After the opening run, Johnson County kept slicing away at the advantage until narrowing the gap to 17-15 to end the first quarter as Hampton took the early upper hand.
Destini Milhorn had two treys and seven points in the opening eight minutes for Hampton. Madison McClain tickled the cotton for a trey and a deuce for five points in a contributing role.
Sadie Stout helped carry her team as the Lady ‘Horn dropped in nine of the 15 points scored by Johnson County in the period.
The Lady Bulldogs managed to increase their lead slightly by the half outscoring the Lady ‘Horns 11-8 in the second quarter to take a 28-23 at the break.
Milhorn’s five points set the tone including another trey while Peyton Gentry dropped in five as well to lead Johnson County.
Hampton rode an explosive 24-15 in the third to get the needed separation to fend off any late Lady ‘Horn stampede efforts.
Madison McClain simply couldn’t miss in the quarter from beyond the arc as the sharpshooter dropped in three from beyond the arc and scored 12 points in the quarter.
Davis and Jenkins collected the other points by scoring six points apiece in pacing Hampton to the big outburst.
Stout, meanwhile, scored 10 of her team’s 15 points in the quarter for Johnson County.
Hampton kept up the pressure down the stretch to put the visitors away with a 15-10 final eight minutes of action.
Madison McClain simply couldn’t be stopped as she garnered team-high scorer with 25 points on the heels of six three’s. Milhorn finished in double figures with 12 while Davis and Jenkins also reached double digits with 11 points each.
Skylar Hicks finished with four points for Hampton while Nicole Guy and Sara Orr each collected two points each in the win.
Stout finished with a game and team-high 30 points to lead all scorers for Johnson County.
