Most area basketball teams are already finding out that being flexible is going to be the new normal this season but never count oneself out until the final horn sounds to end a contest.

The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones found that out first hand when Coach Lucas Andrews ladies had only six players available to take on Tennessee High due to various issues but managed to pull together and take down the Lady Vikings, 48-44.

In a game that was hotly contested throughout, the Lady Vikes managed to work their way to a one-point lead over Elizabethton, 26-25.

Riley Fritts scored eight points in the opening quarter to set the tone for the Lady Vikes while teammate Tori Ryan dropped in seven points to help Tennessee High to grip tightly to the lead.

Lina Lyon had the hot hand in the first half of play for the Lady Cyclones knocking down four treys in the opening 16 minutes to finish with 14 first-half points.

Freshman Marlee Mathena added six points from the post position as well for the Lady Cyclones in the half while Olivia Holly and McKendra Norris totaled three and two respectively.

The difference for the Lady Cyclones came in the second half where Elizabethton used a 23-15 second-half run to take the contest.

Renna Lane’s seven third-period points spearheaded the Lady Cyclones coming out of the locker room as they took the lead for good at the end of the third quarter, 37-34.

Holly and Maddie Fowler added two points each to help push the Lady Cyclones out front.

Mathena’s six points in the fourth quarter kept Elizabethton ahead and allowed for the Cyclone victory.

Lyon’s 16 points were team and game-high for the contest and were followed in double figures by Mathena with 12 for Elizabethton. Lane finished with nine points and Holly six.

Norris and Fowler finished with three and two respectively.

Ryan led the Lady Vikes with 13 points while Annie Hayes collected nine.
