The Elizabethton Cyclone football program has been getting a lot of attention over the last two seasons as the Cyclones have registered 25 straight wins including the 2019 Blue Cross Football Championship for Class 4A.

A large part of those wins found two players constantly in the spotlight in junior quarterback Bryson Rollins and senior wide receiver Parker Hughes.

On Thursday, Rollins and Hughes were once again in the spotlight as the pair of Cyclones were named as semifinalists for the 2020 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football award.

Five semifinalists were chosen after a committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2020 season with academics and character taken into consideration.

High school coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.

“We are very excited and appreciative about being involved with the Tennessee Titans for the 14th consecutive year,” stated Bernard Childress, Executive Director of the TSSAA. “They have helped make the recognition of these 50 student-athletes, their families, and schools possible.

“The sponsorship of the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards and numerous contributions to high schools across the state since the team moved to Tennessee have meant a great deal to the member schools of the TSSAA.”

From the semifinalists, there will be three finalists selected and invited to attend an awards luncheon at Nissan Stadium where the winner will be announced and presented a Mr. Football trophy with the other two finalists receiving a Mr. Football plaque.

Mike Keith who serves as the Voice of the Titans will announce the finalists on the Titans website on Tuesday, November 17 at 12:00 pm EST. The website is www.titansonline.com.

2020 marks the 36th year that the Mr. Football Awards have been presented to Tennessee’s best high school football players.

Rollins has had another standout season as the Cyclone quarterback both on the ground and through the air as the junior as recorded 786 yards on 123 carries and 16 touchdowns on the ground through nine games.

In the passing category, Rollins has completed 80 of 114 passing attempts, a 70 percent completion rate, for 1,482 yards and 21 touchdowns. Rollins has only given up three interceptions.

Hughes has been on the receiving end of 44 receptions for 970 yards and 14 touchdowns. The athletic senior also added one carry for 39 yards and a score on offense.

From the defensive side of the football, Hughes has recorded three interceptions.
