McKendra Lynne Norris and Kailey Brooke Peters of Elizabethton have been invited to be Presentees at the 60th Annual Teen Board Presentation Dance in Knoxville. The dance is being held this evening at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.
The Teen Board Presentation Dance is one of the largest teenage (black tie) dances in the country where teenagers and adults alike enjoy the same social occasion. Last year hundreds of leading teenagers as well as adults (from various parts of the United States) enjoyed the same event. Our newspaper with others, is quite complimentary, and as the Birmingham Post-Herald said, “Far more than any other social fling, the Teen Board Presentation Dance of Knoxville, Tennessee is emerging into one of the most elegant and auspicious occasions on the social calendar of the South.”
“This is the Teen Board’s one outstanding social event of the year. It is not just a dance or a social debut for teenagers. It has far greater meaning. The Teen Board of Knoxville is building leaders for the future,” said Kendra Walker Patty of Teen Board.
The Teen Board of Knoxville is a private, non-profit organization solely for teenagers grades 9-12, with adult help. Its purpose is to get teenagers to work and take the lead in civic and welfare projects, and to lift their social and moral life to higher standards. Last year over 10,500 hours were given to civic and welfare projects for charitable organizations.
“After 60 years, adults have seen results of this work in the good leadership in colleges and universities shown by our former members. By learning to help those less fortunate at this age, in turn they have helped themselves develop a public and civic responsibility they are carrying on as adults, “ said Patty.
This Presentation Dance is a reward for those local girls and boys who have completed their hours of service. The Teen Board honors selected girls from other parts of the country who are either seniors or rising seniors by inviting them to be presented along with our outstanding teenagers.
The weekend began early today with practice and brunch, and will be followed by the Mayor’s dinner, honoring the Presentees and other important dignitaries. This evening festivities will continue with the Presentation of the Presentees and dance at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Following the presentation is a black–tie reception.

ELIZABETHTON PRESENTEES
MCKENDRA LYNNE NORRIS, daughter of Richard and Myra Norris, is a student at Elizabethton High School, where she serves as Student Body President, president of the National Honor Society, and is a four-year member of the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones Varsity Soccer Team and the Lady Cyclones Varsity Basketball Team.
McKendra serves as Key Club International Treasurer, is a member of the inaugural class of the Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy at EHS, and serves as business manager and member of the EHS Yearbook Staff.
She is a member of the Crime Investigation Team, a member of the Carter County Chamber of Commerce Youth Ambassador Program, XQ Student Advisory Committee, EHS School Improvement Board, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a participant in the Student Voice Program.
McKendra is a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and the ACT Youth Group, volunteers with the Santa Pal Program and the Second Time Around Sale, the spring Arts and Crafts Show of the Elizabethton Woman’s Civic Club, as well as the Salvation Army Food Box Distribution Program, the Angel Tree Program, and the Imagination Library Book It to the Bridge.
McKendra will be escorted by Jayden Lane Joiner of Mountain City.
Members of her court are Maggie Rowland, Susanna Digby, Abbigail White, Riley McKinney, Sophie Paulson, Kaylen Shell, Kelsie Winters and Dana Holsclaw.

KAILEY BROOKE PETERS is the daughter of Philip and Bonnie Peters, and is a senior at Elizabethton High.
Kailey serves as Vice President of the Student Government Association, is a member of the Clone Club and Mountain Club. She has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, and is in the top ten percent of the junior class.
Kailey is a two-year varsity cheerleader and is a two-year varsity member of the softball team. She is also a Bartleby Student and volunteers for local safe house and foster care programs.
Kailey is also a member of the Carter County Youth Leadership Council.
She is a member of the East Tennessee Crush Travel Softball Team, Carter County Youth Leadership, and East Tennessee Young Life.
Kailey attends Calvary Church in Johnson City and works at Pelican Snowball.
Her escort for the Teen Board event will be Brayden Phillips.
Members of her court include Jacey Fair, Kaylee Hollifield, Millie Pierce, Torrie Roberts, Macy Street, Gracie Shaw, Caitlin Elliott and Bailey Tyree.
Upon graduation, Kailey plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and major in business.
