Leon Montgomery, age 72, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at his residence. He was the son of the late Magdaline Lovill Walker and O.M. Walker, Jr. Leon worked in construction and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed golfing, reading his bible every day and he loved to help others.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Renee Markland; two grandsons, Hunter James Markland and Rickie Dewayne Berry; and his maternal grandparents, Lonzi and Lila Lovill.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 43 years, Sue Montgomery of the home; four children, Lee Elgin and her children of Mt. Airy, NC, Robbin Epperson and her children of Lowgap, NC, David Markland and wife Heather of Gray, TN, Heather Odom and husband David of Elizabethton, TN; four grandsons, Josh Berry, Zachary Shiflett, Austin Markland, and Rickie Odom; one special granddaughter, Maggie Odom; one great-grandchild, Jace Berry; one brother, Kenneth Walker and wife Paula of Mt. Airy, NC; two sisters, Teresa Walker of Rural Hall, NC, and Lisa Johnson Montgomery and husband Bill of Salisbury, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 12:00 P.M. – 1:30 P.M. at Harmony Freewill Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation at 1:30 P.M. with Brother David Odom officiating.
The graveside service and interment will follow the celebration of life service at Emmert Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Markland, Zachary Shiflett, Austin Markland, David Cole, Junior Cole, Roger Cole, Eddie Peters and Joe Castro. Honorary pallbearers are David Odom, Maggie Odom, Rickie Odom and Josh Berry.
Friends may call at the residence at any time.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Bea Campbell, Jackie Campbell, Theresa Campbell, and Louise Shields for their longtime family friendship.
