Coach Scott Potter and his Highlanders knew if they could weather the storm in playing the larger schools on their schedule they had a shot at doing well in their region.
Last week against Hancock County, the Highlanders totally decimated the visiting Indians winning by a 49-0 margin on Orr Field and picking up another game this week in the process when they were able to get Sunbright on their schedule.
Although the Highlanders will be boarding the bus for the long ride to Sunbright to take on the Tigers who enter the game at 1-4 with two of those losses being COVID related and dropping their last two contest by giving up over 50 points in each contest to Coalfield (50-28) and Harriman (54-12), the ‘Landers have to feel optimistic about their chances.
Cloudland got it done on the ground last week against the visiting Indians rolling up 228 yards of offense on 31 carries and recording 17 first downs along the way.
They were also able to stay away from the turnover bug and had only four penalties on the night for 25 yards.
One of the most interesting stats was that Cloudland managed to get nine players to record at least one rush in the contest led by Seth Birchfield who toted the pigskin 11 times for 88 yards and two scores.
Caleb Sluder and Tanner Blevins also recorded rushing touchdowns in the contest for Cloudland paving the way to their 49 points scored.
Cloudland will need much of the same this week against the Tigers to give themselves a shot at bringing home the victory as the ground game will be important in keeping the TIger offense off the field while allowing Cloudland to control the flow of the contest.
For Potter and his squad, they are just happy to be able to play as they were staring another off week but now will be able to put on the pads for some action under the Friday Night Lights.
The game will kick off at 7:30 pm against the Region 2- 1A Tigers.
