There is a statement used by a lot of people that when the going gets tough the tough gets going.
The Elizabethton Lady Cyclone volleyball team proved that on Tuesday night when after finding themselves in a two-set deficit, the Lady Cyclones rallied in a major way to take down the Unicoi County Blue Devils 3-2 for a big Three Rivers Conference contest.
After winning the first set, 25-17, Unicoi County quickly responded to take the second set by a 25-18 score and followed up with a nail-biting 26-24 win in set three.
Needing only one set to close out the match and with the Lady Cyclones backs against the wall on their home floor, Elizabethton dug down deep and responded with a 25-21 win in the fourth set that forced a winner-take-all shootout in the fifth set with the winner being the first one to 15.
The Lady Cyclones fed off the support of their home crowd and responded with a 15-11 win to move their season record to 5-6. The match took 2:14:37 to complete.
Defensively, Brittany Kitchens led the charge with 18 digs in the match with Libro Grace Martin pulling out 14. Jayci Bowers and Cheyenne Poiroux added 12 digs apiece.
Kitchens was also strong at the net where she put down 15 kills followed by Mattie Davis with 12. Poiroux and Kallista DePrimo added nine and seven kills respectively.

The Lady Cyclones picked up another win on the season when they defeated the Lady Black Knights of Chuckey-Doak 3-0.
Elizabethton took the three sets by a 25-12, 25-15, and 25-20 score to win the match.
Kallista DePrimo led the Lady Cyclones on the defensive side of the ball as she had 13 digs on the night. Mattie Davis and Brittany Kitchens added double-digit digs as well as each recorded 11 on the night.
Kitchens showed up at the net as well putting down eight kills while Davis added seven. Freshman Karie Merritt tallied four kills as did DePrimo.
Grace Martin recorded two aces on serve for the Lady Cyclones.
