Randy Carroll Whaley, 73, Elizabethton, moved from this earth to his heavenly home on Monday, July 13, 2020, at Cornerstone Rehab in Johnson City, Tenn. He was a resident of Carter County, growing up in the Little Milligan community.
Randy was a 1965 graduate of Hampton High School and a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He also served as the Sunday School Secretary and sang in the choir until his health prevented him from doing so. Randy was retired from Wal-Mart and had been employed by Inland Containers and Watauga Industries.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorris Smith Whaley; his first wife, Sandy Story Whaley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Baker Whaley, of the home, who lovingly and selflessly cared for him; sister, Judy (Jack) Hughes, Hampton; niece, Tracie (Jimmy) Shelton-Powers, Elizabethton; step-son, Shawn D’spain of Texas; his aunt, Mary Forbes, Elizabethton; sisters-in-law, Linda Stith, Elizabethton, and Kay DePaola, Roan Mountain; and several cousins. He also leaves behind his “Little Girl”, Missy the dog.
Friends may register their presence at the funeral home from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 16. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, at Butler Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Isenhour, the Rev. Nick Bradshaw and the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Music will be provided by the Rev. Ronnie Campbell. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday, are J.R. Campbell, Carl Davenport, Charlie Jennings, Steve Walsh, Tyler Trussler, Danny Kinser and Jack Harrison. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Harrison, Jack Hughes, Michael Harris, John Forbes, Cody Forbes, Steve Smith, Joey DePaola, Jerome Finney, Bart Smith, Jimmy Powers, Doug Hatley, the Adult Men of Little Milligan Baptist Church, Don Campbell, Carl Harrison and Buzz White. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Randy to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
