Elizabethton- It was yet again a beautiful day for baseball at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark Tuesday night as it was two Carter County teams that would battle it out on the diamond.
The Bulldogs, who claimed their first league win last week wanted to keep the ball rolling, while the Cyclones looked to defend their home turf against the team only a few miles up the road.
Wesley Shankles, the Cyclones starter on the mound, came out on fire as he sat down the leadoff batter in three pitches while keeping the Bulldogs off the bases in the first.
In the bottom frame, the Cyclones kept their momentum with a barrage of hits starting with Padraig Murphy who would bring home two runs on a bloop to center field along with Peyton Johnson and the Bulldog fielding staff who would contribute six more runs to the cause, giving the Cyclones an 8-0 lead after one.
The Bulldogs were able to catch their breaths in the second after a bases-loaded walk, as well as an infield single by Caleb Royston, cut the Cyclone lead to 8-2 going into the home half of the inning.
In the home half of the second, it was more of the same for the Cyclones as Ethan Meier got the party started with a two-RBI single followed by Murphy once again bringing home two of his own. After it was all said and done, the Cyclones had widened their lead to 13-2 heading into the third.
There was nothing doing for the Bulldogs in the top of the third, as Shankles kept the batters guessing, leaving them off the bases once again.
And after a couple of hot bats to start the home half of the third, the Cyclones were also forced to a halt as the score remained 13-2 after three.
Parker Henry was able to seize the opportunity in the fourth after a wild pitch resulted in another run for the Bulldogs. However it was the only thing the Bulldogs could get going as the deficit heading into the bottom half was still a big one, 13-3.
With the young players now in, the Cyclones kept the train rolling as they put up two more runs in the fourth thanks to a wild pitch and a swing of the bat by Brilee Hurley.
But the Bulldogs wouldn’t go down without a fight as Mitchell Tolley helped the Bulldogs bring in two of their own before the game was called in the middle of the inning due to run-rule at a final score of 15-5.
