World Series runner-ups… Jr. Cyclones 10U collect hardware on Sunday

While many were shooting off fireworks this weekend celebrating the Fourth of July, the Jr. Cyclones 10U baseball team was igniting some fireworks of their own on the baseball diamond as the team hailing out of Elizabethton battled tooth and nail to the bitter end before coming up just one-run shy in the USSSA 10U World Series Championship, 9-8, to Tennessee RBI out of Knoxville.
In pool play, the team started off the tournament in perfection going 3-0 as they won 9-3 over the Johnson City Elite, 6-0 over Diamond Elite from Knoxville, and gained an impressive 17-2 victory over the Stateliners.
With the 3-0 record in pool play, the Jr. Cyclone team entered bracket play on Saturday by winning a nip and tuck game against the Diamond Elite out of Knoxville by a single run, 6-5.
The Jr. Cyclones were looking to keep their hot streak going before falling 15-5 to the Tennessee Braves. The loss dropped the Jr. Cyclones to the loser’s bracket on Sunday needing to win or face elimination.
With a 5-4 win over the Power Zone Aces from Virginia, the Jr. Cyclones stayed alive to fight another game. The Jr. Cyclones knew what lay ahead to remain in the tournament and responded in another elimination game.
This time, the Jr. Cyclones took care of business by getting the sticks going to win 14-2 over the Charleston, West Virginia Crush to set up a rematch with the Tennessee Braves in the World Series Semi-Finals.
A sour taste was in the mouths of the Jr. Cyclones remembering the loss that dropped them to the loser’s bracket and they came back with a vengeance to send the Braves packing with an 8-3 victory.
Having to play through a tough slate to get to the championship final caught up to the Jr. Cyclones who never gave up before ultimately falling in the heartbreaker.
The Jr. Cyclones posted an impressive 7-2 record in the World Series.
