Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area on Saturday hosted the annual Patriot Bell Ringing Ceremony honoring the 13 original colonies of the United States.
Duane Mead, a member of the Kings Mountain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, said, “The commemorative ceremony reminds us all of the dauntless courage our patriots had in declaring independence from Great Britain and establishing the freedom of the United States of America.”
Chad Bogart opened the ceremony and Tim Massey did the roll call of the 13 colonies. Following the reading of the Declaration of Independence by Bogart, the Sons of the American Revolution fired a gun salute volley.
Three old-fashioned “huzzahs” for the United States of America closed the ceremony.
