**Editor’s Note: Laura Parkey-Purkey didn’t get to share with those in attendance her appreciation for being inducted into the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame during her induction. The following was contributed by C.Y. Peters on her behalf.

I have been going to basketball games since I was five years old. I love my daddy and daddy loved the game.
He loved to coach both his boys’ and girls’ teams. He was hard on you but he was also fair.
I am so glad he loved the game of basketball because it got me involved. I have watched my dad kick many chairs and break many clipboards.
I have helped coach the girls and calm him down to stop him from getting thrown out of games. We won 139 straight games when he coached the Unaka Elementary girls.
I was so happy to be a part of those historic teams.
I remember skipping school so daddy and I could watch the Rangers boys play in the state tournament. I actually got in trouble with the Tech Center and was written up for it.
I watched the Rangers boys win that state tournament and bring that gold ball back to Stoney Creek. I have watched the Lady Cyclones go to state.
I also was involved when daddy helped Buddy at Hampton.
So, I guess you can say that daddy and I were involved all around Carter County.
The following people are very near and dear to my heart: Bobbie Blevins-Frazier, Alice Peters, Coach Len Dugger, Jarfly Dugger, Jeannie Pierce, Ron Hodge, Mrs.Perry.
I want to thank God and my daddy for my experiences with basketball. This means more than I can put into words.
