Many area residents took advantage of the early June heat to head to the Shook Branch Picnic Area on Watauga Lake for a dip in the cool waters, but their day was cut short by late afternoon storms that rolled through the area.

Construction continues on the new Pleasant Beach Baptist Church on Hwy 400 as crew members work on finishing outside touches of the building and the layout of the parking lot.
It doesn’t matter who you are, there is always something to do during the warmth of the summer season whether you are a farmer, a builder, a boater, or just someone looking to take a refreshing dip in the river or lake.
Star Photographer Larry Souders took advantage of the warm days to find local people out and about as well as some of the great beauty found on the backroads and highways in Carter County.
