Even a few raindrops on the windshield couldn’t hide the excitement of those who passed by Elizabethton High School head football coach Shawn Witten’s home on West G Street on Monday as friends, family, and football players all joined in a drive-by parade to wish the Cyclone skipper a Happy 40th Birthday.
Horns honked, players shouted out birthday wishes, and Witten couldn’t stop smiling to see everyone that took time to come out and celebrate the day with him.
“I have been in countdown mode since Friday as I have dreaded this day so bad,” said Witten with a big chuckle. “On Saturday I was like well its 48 more hours and yesterday I was like okay 24 hours more.”
Probably the biggest gift Witten received was the word that teams could start coming back together under certain procedures beginning June 1st.
Witten was joined in front of his home by his wife Katie, his son Rider, and daughters Natalie and Brooke as the vehicles passed by.
