To the Editor:
This letter concerns an act of kindness by Food City to the residents of Life Care Nursing Home of Elizabethton.
A nursing home can be a lonely place, especially during an event as the coronavirus outbreak, and, more so than ever, on Mother’s Day. However, Life Care Nursing Home made Mother’s Day a memorable experience by having a parade for family to drive through the circle outside the nursing home in honor of the special day. The residents got to sit outside and see their families.
As we know all too well, no one can visit during the outbreak. What a lonely time it has and could have been. This was not to be the case for these precious moms. The activities director bought each lady a Mother’s Day card and they each received yet, another special one from an unknown source. Also, Food City donated a beautiful carnation to each lady there. What a beautiful testimony to the kindness put forth during a time of year that means so much to moms everywhere.
To me, it shows that even during a time of fear and confusion we can still be kind to one another. Moms still love flowers no matter what. And, Food City made sure the moms at Life Care each had a beautiful flower. They sent carnations in all the colors of the rainbow — red, purple, white, pinks, blush, and even green ones were given to each lady there. The ladies got to wear their carnations to the parade on their wrist, made possible by the way of the activities director at Life Care, fashioning a little tie to each flower (she made these at her home after work).
The flowers, the Mother’s Day cards, the parade and the participation of all the loving family members made it possible for the moms at Life Care Center to each feel like the special person they are. What a beautiful way to say I love you to these moms who deserve it.
I would like to send a special thank you to Food City for being such a loving participant on this Mother’s Day. Also to the staff at Life Care Nursing Home. We can still make a difference apart from one another, one act of kindness, and one smile at a time.
