Vanderbilt University gets $20M grant for drug research

NASHVILLE (AP) — Vanderbilt University announced it received a $20 million gift to support the school’s research into treatments for brain disorders.
The grant was given by the William K. Warren Foundation to the school’s Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery, the university said Tuesday in a statement.
“It is gratifying to support this research at Vanderbilt University, an institution that has made a significant impact on the lives of so many, including my family,” said John-Kelly Warren, CEO of the Warren Foundation.
The center, which has about 100 scientists, focuses on transforming academic research into treatments for brain disorders including Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease. The university said one of its recent discoveries, a drug that could help slow memory loss, is undergoing clinical trials.
