We are not alone, God is with us

They begged him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them. Luke 24:29

“The Lord is risen; He is risen indeed!” We said it on Sunday, now will we live it? It is not necessary to keep going back to the tomb to see if it is really empty. The women left the cemetery and never went back. John wrote that Peter and the other disciples left the empty tomb and went home.

Two people traveled the Emmaus road whose lives seemed destroyed by the death of Jesus. They did not know that the one they were grieving over was walking with them the entire journey. “Abide with us for the day is far spent.” Those are the words that the living Savior wants to hear from all of us. He alone can take a far-spent day (or life) and makes it good and eternal.

“The LORD is near to all who call on him…” Psalm 145:18

The day we were told to stay home to stop the spread of the coronavirus; the Lord stayed with us. Christ rides in every ambulance, works with all medical teams, holds the little children, greets the cautious grocery shopper, and abides in every home where he is welcomed. We are not alone, God is with us, and blessed are the ones who cannot see him and yet they believe.

“I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,

Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;

And I know that Thou art with me,

Wilt be with me to the end.”
