“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy. The ultimate measure of a man’s life is the lives he touched.”
Mark Weddle, 58, of Bluff City, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 9, 2020, from the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mark was born in Radford, Va., to William Robert Weddle and Lynda Roop Weddle of Elizabethton.
Mark was a man of great wealth — wealth not being measured by possessions, but by the way he was loved and the way he loved his family, friends, and business associates.
Mark shared his life with the love of his life and wife for 31 years and his precious daughters, Sarah and Mary. Their pool and home were always open with love and hospitality to anyone. On any free, sunny day, he would have a pontoon boat full of friends and family. His love of family and extended family and friends was evident in his everyday life. He had such a zest and passion for life and his hobbies and the Tennessee Vols.
Mark served as Vice President for Commercial Electronics. He attended Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church and had served as worship leader at Roan Street Church of God for many years. Mark loved traveling and was very adventurous. He was a hard worker and loved being a Pop to Judd. Above all, he loved his family and the Lord. His contagious laughter and smile impacted everyone he met.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 31 years, Rhonda Townsend Weddle, of the home; two daughters, Sarah Weddle of Scottsburg, Ind., and Mary Weddle, of the home; one grandson, William Jordan “Judd” Howser; one sister, Cathy Sanders and husband Ivan of Elizabethton; and one brother, Alan Weddle, also of Elizabethton. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
An open visitation will be held from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, April 12, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, or at the residence at any time. A private graveside service to celebrate the life of Mark Weddle will be conducted at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Randy Johnson and Pastor Ken Bewley officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. The family would like to especially thank Dr. James Shipley, Dr. Sheryl Pack, Misty Justis, RN and Jim Brasfield, Neurosurgery for the loving care given to Mark. Also to the Emergency Room Staff at Bristol Regional Hospital. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
