Billy Joe Buckles

Billy Joe Buckles, 89, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, April 4, 2020, at the Center on Aging and Health, Erwin.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Roy and Susie Elliott Buckles.
Billy enjoyed raising cattle, raising tobacco and fishing. He did many things in his lifetime, including tearing down the old Elizabethton High School and various houses in Johnson City and Erwin to make way for the Interstate to be built. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Joyce Buckles; two brothers, Jack Buckles and Rondal Buckles; and a sister, Jean Mathes.
Survivors include his children, Joe (Glenda) Buckles, Kathie (Darrell) Foster, Debbie (Tilman) Seaton, David Buckles and Scott Buckles; three grandchildren, Adam Buckles, Michael Arnold and Dustin Arnold; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Cora Smith; and a brother, Larry Buckles.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday in the Emmert Cemetery with Chaplain Kevin Laws officiating. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to all his caregivers and the staff at the Center on Aging & Health in Erwin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you check on someone to be sure they have what they need at this time.
