Elizabethton City and Carter County Schools close, still offer breakfast and lunch options

Elizabethton City Schools and Carter County Schools have announced their closure. Elizabethton City Schools will be closed starting today until April 3. Students ages 18 and under will be able to receive meals during the closure. East Side Elementary, Harold McCormick Elementary, and West Side Elementary will be open Monday through Friday during the hours of 9-9:30 a.m. for breakfast and 12-12:45 p.m. for lunch. Meals will be distributed using a car line pickup process in the parking lots. Everyone is encouraged to stay in their cars during the distribution process. Adults may also purchase a meal for $3.75. Cafeterias will not be open for sit-down meals.

**These meals WILL NOT be available during spring break.

Carter County Schools have announced that they will be closed from Wednesday, March 18, through Tuesday, March 31. The closure includes all extracurricular and athletic events as well. Carter County Schools will reevaluate the situation as to the reopening of schools near the April 1 date. Students are asked to take their personal items and books home at this time.

During the closure, Carter County Schools will continue to provide services to students in the most efficient way possible. Lunch will be provided to ANY child age zero to 18 at five locations throughout the county. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, lunch will be available at pickup stands from noon until 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following: Happy Valley Elementary, Hunter Elementary, Hampton High, Cloudland Elementary, and Little Milligan School. Please note that children must be present to receive lunch and all buildings will be closed to the public.

Instructional plans are also prepared for students. In grades, K-8 pdf documents will be available on the district’s and each school’s websites as well as social media pages. In the event students do not have access to internet, hard copies will be made available at the Carter County Schools Administration Building. Students in grades 9-12 will have educational materials available through Google classroom. Further information will be sent home with students today.

The national ACT test date is today, March 17. The assessment will be postponed at this time. It will be rescheduled on one of the approved testing dates, if possible. If this is not possible, students who wish to take the assessment will be provided with vouchers to take the assessment on another test date at another location.
