PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man has been arrested on multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of a child, state police said.
Rodney Ootton, 53, of Pawtucket, was arrested Wednesday on three counts of indecent solicitation of a child, Rhode Island State Police said in a statement.
Ootton was taken into custody after responding to a prearranged location to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sexual acts.
He was released on $20,000 bail with conditions including no contact with children and restricted use of the internet. He did not enter a plea and no defense attorney was listed in court records.
Ootton was previously charged with statutory rape in Memphis, Tennessee and found guilty in December 1998. He received a one-year suspended sentence.
He faces up to five years in prison of convicted of the new charge.
