NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee State Library and Archives says it is providing people with older marriage, divorce and death records that they could need to get a Real ID.

Library and archives officials say they are helping provide records prior to 1970 and birth records prior to 1920 that could be essential to prove name changes over the years.

Those in need of certified copies of the older birth, marriage, divorce or death records can visit the library and archives in Nashville or call the agency.

People who need birth records from 1920 to present or marriage, divorce and death records from 1970 to present, should instead contact the Tennessee Office of Vital Records.

The deadline is Oct. 1 to get Real IDs, special licenses that many will need to take domestic flights and enter some federal facilities. Passports, military IDs or tribal IDs are some allowable alternatives.

To apply for a Real ID, people need to provide documents proving their citizenship or legal presence, Social Security number, Tennessee residence and any name change.
