The Julius Dugger-John Carter Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library at 10:15 a.m. Don Holt, Naturalist at Steele Creek Nature Center, will give a presentation on “Wild Gardens.” Don is a font of knowledge on everything in the natural world. The public is invited, as well as anyone interested in joining the DAR, to attend this meeting and very informative program.
Boozy Creek Community Center, 1989 Shelleys Road, Bristol, Va., will hold a Fish and Chicken Meal at 4 p.m. The meal will be served with lots of traditional sides, a large variety of homemade desserts, and drinks. Music will be provided by “Harlan County Grass” from 5 to 7 p.m. A large attendance is expected, so come early. For more information, call (276) 466-0026.

PAL, a new support group for adults with loved ones battling addiction to drugs/alcohol, will meet at 11 a.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. The weekly meetings offer education, support, HOPE, and the knowledge that you are not alone. Alzheimer’s Tennessee Caregiver Support Group will meet at noon at Sycamore Springs Senior Living, 1504 West Elk Ave., Elizabethton. The confidential group provides education, hope and encouragement to caregivers and family members of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or any related dementia. Participants can learn about community resources, share coping techniques and gain insight and feedback from others who understand. Rocky Top Gun Permit School will offer a handgun carry permit class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, starting at 8 a.m. Ken Potter, a veteran law enforcement officer, is the instructor for the class. Rocky Top is one of the first schools to offer permit training and has been teaching the program since 1997. Cost of the class is $55. You will need to bring your weapon and 50 rounds of ammo.
