James Paul “Snuffy” Murray Sr.

James Paul “Snuffy” Murray Sr., 93, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Thomas Mack and Anna Mae Crowe Murray.
James served in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. He was a retired pipefitter and welder and a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 538, Johnson City. He was a member of Southside Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Paul Murray Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, June Dinsmore Murray; his children, Janie Murray, Shelia Pierce, Mack Murray, David Murray, Lee Garland and Lisa Hyder; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the Murray Cemetery (Sneed Hill Road) with Pastor Ken Hauser officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
