Get your running/walking shoes ready this Spring!

Registration began last week to participate in the second annual 5K Bunny Hop Run/Walk Marathon for the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department in Carter County.

According to Charice Richardson-Arnold, who manages the fundraising committee department with Chief Jack Buckles, online registration will last until the day of the marathon on April 11, and then people can still register at the event.

The event will be at New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church.

Those wishing to register can go to a provided link on the department’s Facebook page and follow a few easy steps to join. Those who register early are ensured a free T-shirt that is in a limited amount. The shirt will have sponsors on the back of the shirt, and also includes a memorial to the late Chief Clifford Peters of the department, who retired after 50 years of service.

Richardson-Arnold said the goal for the event is to have around 250-300 people, and that everyone in the community is welcome.

“This is a community event. Anyone and everyone is available to come and be part of this event,” she said.

People who are participating are encouraged to exercise in preparation for the event. Participants can either run or walk the 5K. Those who are not participating in the marathon will also have something to do at the event, however.

“If you don’t want to run/walk the 5K we will have vendors set up that day with different products to sell, food and door prizes,” she said.

All proceeds from the event will be going to a brand new Station 2 building that is planning to be located in the Hunter community.

The event will also continue to take place in the future.

“The event has been very successful so far and our community loves being a part of it, so yes we plan on having a 5K Bunny Hop Run/Walk every year,” she said.
