William H. “Bill” Carr

William H. “Bill” Carr, 86, of Piney Flats, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 24, 2020, from Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Bill was born in Piney Flats to the late Benjamin Harrison Carr and Nonna Minnick Carr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Jones Carr; a daughter, Amy Greene; a half-brother, George Carr; and a half-sister, Nell Ruth Carr Little.
Bill retired from Raytheon and was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a member of Piney Flats United Methodist Church and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from East Tennessee State University. Bill was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the M.M. Martin Masonic Lodge F&AM for 60 years. He loved to play golf, all of the University of Tennessee athletes and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Those left to cherish his memory include a son and daughter-in-law, Benjie and Katherine Carr of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Allison, Micah, Zachary, Tristen, Olivia and Whitney; one great-granddaughter, Rowan; one special nephew, Dan Blevins of Franklin, Tenn.; one special niece, Linda C. Gray of Knoxville; and a son-in-law, Richard Greene of Bluff City. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of William H. “Bill” Carr will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 27, at Piney Flats United Methodist Church with Dr. Paul Humphrey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Shell Cemetery in Piney Flats. Active pallbearers will be Bryan Torbett, Brad Torbett, Brett Hodge, Scott Hagy and others selected from family and friends. Zachary Greene will serve as honorary pallbearer. Military Honors to be accorded by the Bristol VFW Post 6975. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Piney Flats United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
