FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were looking at the scoreboard in the third quarter perhaps thinking where they might have to travel for the first round of the regional tournament.
But something snapped together all at one time and the Lady Cyclones regrouped to force overtime two times before snatching a 51-46 over the Sullivan East Lady Patriots on the Lady ‘Pats home floor but more importantly gaining a home game in the first round of the regional tournament Friday regardless if they win or lose in the championship.
It would be sweet, however, if the Lady Cyclones can for the second straight season pull off a win to secure the top seed in District 1 and more importantly defend their district title from last season.
Trailing at one time by 13 points in the third period, the Lady Cyclones began reeling in the Lady Patriots point-by-point until they caught East at 37-all forcing the second overtime.
Neither team could pull away in the first overtime session with both teams scoring four points each to make the score 41-41 and bringing on the second overtime session.
Kaitlin Bailey took over in the extra period by scoring five points with help from teammate Morgan Headrick who knocked down four points to help the Lady Cyclones to outscore East 10-5 and earning the right to face Central for the title.
Bailey led the Lady Cyclones with 14 points in the low-scoring contest while Headrick was a step behind with 12 points.
Kaylen Shell and Lina Lyon added eight and seven points respectively for the Lady Cyclones. Kelsie Winters finished with six points while Renna Lane collected four.
