After a forecast for snow pushed the 2020 District 1-AA tournament up a day, the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones and Happy Valley Lady Warriors took to the court for the first game of action on Friday.
If one is a fan of offense, this game probably was a dull as the end of rusty nail as a victory would ensure one of the teams that their season would go beyond the district tournament with a bid up for grabs for regional play.
In a game that wasn’t really settled until the final horn sounded, the Lady Cyclones managed to take the win by an eyelash and ending the Lady Warriors season with a 34-28 victory.
The win set Elizabethton up with a date against two-seed Sullivan East on Saturday.
Seven Lady Cyclones scored in the contest as Kaitlin Bailey, after being held scoreless in the first period, responded with a game-high 14 points for Elizabethton.
Morgan Headrick logged six points in the victory with Kelsie Winters and Kaylen Shell contributing with four points apiece.
Renna Lane (3), Torrie Roberts (2), and Lina Lyon (1) closed out the scoring for the Lady Cyclones.
In their final game of the season, Kadie Bailey scored 12 points to lead the Lady Warriors. Jaiden Clark and Shayln Whitson each dropped in four points each for Coach Thomas Gouge’s squad.
Emily Lunceford and Olivia Absher collected three points apiece. Casey Campbell finished with two points.
