Get ready to show your passion for heritage at Audition for Liberty!: The Saga of Sycamore Shoals this Sunday and next Saturday.
Auditions for both speaking and non-speaking roles will be taking place at 2 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals in the gathering room of the Visitor’s Center.
Leslie Brockley, secretary of the facility, said those wishing to audition do not need to bring anything with them and will be doing script read throughs with one another. Children must have a parent with them at all times due to safety reasons.
“If people want to come and not do a speaking part that is alright,” she said. “There are roles for men, women and children.”
While there will be a set number of speaking roles, there is no set number of those who will not be speaking. Additionally, costumes will be provided for the production to anyone who does not have their own.
Brockley said the production is welcome to everyone and all parts are up for grabs at auditions. She also said she began in a non-speaking role in the production and then tried out for speaking roles later on. She is also trying out.
For those wishing to try out, Brockley has words of encouragement.
“When you’re doing this you’re becoming a different person,” said Brockley. ”It’s really neat. It’s like when you were a kid and you’d pretend to be something, and that’s what you’re doing basically. You just become that character.”
Brockley also said that no one should be disappointed if they do not get a speaking role if they wanted one as they can still have a non-speaking role and can try again next year.
Once roles are cast, Brockley said everyone in the production bond.
“We become like a little family because we rehearse quite a bit,” she said.
Those wishing to audition are needed to be there by 2 p.m. but are welcome to come earlier if they choose. Park hours begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Paperwork needing general information will be given out to complete.
Rehearsals are set to begin in April with schedules going out to those cast in the production.
The production will take place there the last three weekends of July.
“All of this is about bringing history to life so that people know what happened here,” said Brockley.
