Caldwell Springs Baptist Church will be holding a fundraiser for Laban Carrier on March 1.

Carrier is a missionary who has been overseas since May of 2019 with Global U. He is currently in Granada, Nicaragua where he will be for the next six weeks before moving to his next destination.

The event was coordinated in part by Melissa Loveless, a teacher at Unaka High School and member of the church. It will take place at the church from 2-3:30 p.m. with Carson Peters and Iron Mountain performing.

“We will take up a love offering, and all the proceeds will go to Laban,” Loveless said. “We hope this will be enough to help him get him what he needs or close to it.”

Carrier’s goal is currently $19,000, with $12,000 that has already been raised. These proceeds are aimed at helping him until he finishes his work in June of this year.

While the current amount of people attending is not yet clear, Loveless said that preparations are in place in case a big crowd arrives with church buses ready for members of the church to make parking more available.

“We’re not a big church, but if it’s full, we’ll be happy,” she said.

While the event at one time was considered for a bigger venue, Loveless said the church was the ultimate choice.

“Laban goes to church at Caldwell Springs and we have had all our other fundraisers at Caldwell Springs, and we started the fundraising for him at Caldwell Springs and we thought it was suited to finish it there if we could.”

When reaching out to Carrier for a comment on the fundraiser, he noted the differences in daily life in Nicaragua where many live on less than one dollar a day, and was also hopeful for the event’s turnout.

“I’m hoping people are able to come out and enjoy some good music and help a young man who wants to spread God’s word around the world,” he said.
