North Greene spoils Unaka seniors final home game

It was the seniors final game at Unaka High School and they were playing the number one team in the conference, North Greene.
One might have thought there might be an upset in the making for three quarters as the Rangers handed the Huskies all they wanted.
Unaka had lost by one point at North Greene and the Creek was looking to knock off the number one team while preparing for next week’s district tournament.

Unaka led 12-11 at the end of the first and trailed by two at halftime. Will Sexton scored 13 points for Unaka but was held scoreless in the second half.
The Huskies came out in the third fired up and scored 48 in the second half for a 74-44 win.  It gave North Greene at least a share of the title waiting on the Hampton and Cloudland game results.
Unaka took the lead in the third 30-28 at the 5:19 mark but North Greene would outscore Unaka 12-1 and end the third up 42-36.
The Huskies would score the first eleven points of the final period to go up 53-36 and from there it was all downhill for the Rangers.
Senior Nolan Bradley hit a three at the buzzer for Unaka.
Turner Bailey just could not be stopped as he posted 25 points for the Huskies with five three’s and hit 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Unaka was 12-of-22 from the line while North Green was 18-of-24.
Sexton finished with 13 while Ryan Johnson followed with nine.
Kendal Loftis scored 13 for North Greene.

In girls’ action, the Lady Huskies opened up with a 16-8 lead and never trailed. Brooklyn Anderson hit six shots from the floor and 6-of-6 from the line to lead North Greene with 18 points.
The Lady Huskies were up 27-13 at halftime and outscored Unaka 16-11 in the third. They would go on to win by twenty, 59-39.
Lyndie Ramsey led Unaka with 17 while Mackenzie Depew followed with seven.
“We beat their press but made some bad decision and it cost us,” said Lady Ranger head coach Kenneth Chambers who lost his last home game 59-39.
