KINGSPORT – Anyone wanting to play Yahtzee with the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones might want to reconsider especially with the way the dice are all coming up in perfect alignment for the team right now as the Lady Cyclones continue to roll.
With everyone back pretty much from injury right now the Lady Cyclone continued their hot basketball play by downing the Sullivan South Lady Rebels Tuesday night 53-38.
Kaylen Shell finally had a break out night offensively that head coach Lucas Andrews has been waiting for as the senior gunned in 19 points to lead Elizabethton as nine of her points came in the opening half.
The first half saw the Lady Cyclones get balanced scoring with Kelsie Winters, Morgan Headrick, and Kaitlin Bailey knocked down five points apiece to establish a 27-18 halftime advantage.
Lina Lyon added a trey in the half as well.
Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Rebels outscored ‘Betsy 14-10 in an attempt to get back into the contest, but the Lady Cyclones settled down both offensively and defensively in the final eight minutes outscoring the Lady Rebs 16-6 down the stretch.
Bailey and Lyon finished the contest with nine points apiece in the win. Torrie Roberts finished with a flurry in the fourth period scoring six points on a trey and a 3-of-4 effort from the charity stripe.
Headrick and Winters finished with five points in the victory.
Nicole Troutman paced South with 13 points in the loss. Abby Compton added nine points for the Lady Rebels while McKenzie Littleton added eight points.
The Lady Cyclones established a 16-point lead early in the first half and then to slip away from what got them the advantage.
That was corrected at halftime according to Andrews.
“We practice a lot on drive and kicks and establish the inside game and that is what got us that lead and playing good defense,” said Andrews after the contest. “We came in and fixed some things at halftime and came back out and adjusted to get back to what we were doing in the first half.”
The Lady Cyclones (4-1, 11-7) will be back on the floor Friday night when the pesky Sullivan East Lady Patriots come calling for a 6:30 pm contest at John Treadway Gym.
