FROM STAFF REPORTS
KNOXVILLE – The Elizabethton Cyclones went searching for a couple of much-needed wins on the road at Stone Memorial High School over the weekend but came away as empty as the Who’s in Whoville after the Grinch stole all their Christmas gifts and decorations.
And things don’t get any easier as after Christmas, the Cyclones hit the hardwood at Viking Hall in the 2019 Arby’s Classic.
Stone Memorial…63
Elizabethton……..54
Behind a 19-point output from Zach Street of Stone Memorial, the Cyclones came up nine points short to the host school.
Nico Ashley had a monster game for the Cyclones scoring a game-high 27 points but Elizabethton just couldn’t get enough output from the rest of their scorers as Jake Roberts tickled the twine for 17 with the other scorers in the game scoring only three points or less.
Jordan Haynes and Seth Carter knocked down a trey each while Nicholas Wilson and Brayden Phillips each contributed two points apiece.
Zach Boyd, Jack Eldridge, and Hunter Wattenbargen complimented Street’s output with eight points each for Stone Memorial.
York……………71
Elizabethton…59
York’s Noah Smith and Elizabethton’s Nico Ashley put on a scoring clinic in Elizabethton’s second contest of the Stone Memorial Christmas tournament as Smith rifled in 29 points and Ashley hit his second game scoring 27 points but York had enough additional firepower to overcome the Cyclones effort.
Roger Meadows and Riley Cooper scored 19 and 13 points respectively to complement Smith’s output to help York defeat the Cyclones. York was a big team and shot the ball well according to Cyclone head coach Lucas Honeycutt.
Meanwhile, for Elizabethton, William Willocks contributed with double-digit scoring with 10 points while Jordan Haynes finished with nine.
Brayden Phillips, Jake Roberts, and Seth Carter totaled three points each in the defeat while Donta Earnest and Nate Stephens each collected two points each.
The Cyclones must now get ready for the Webb School on Thursday, December 26th in the prime time game at 8:30 pm on the first day of the Arby’s Classic.
