Lady Cyclones pick up win on road at Knox Webb

KNOXVILLE – With Christmas right around the corner, area basketball teams are trying to get a few games before the Christmas break as they will be entering the heart of their conference games at the first of the new year.
The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones is one of those teams and Coach Lucas Andrews team took to the road over the weekend as they traveled to Knoxville to take on Knox Webb – a team steeped in winning championships.
By the time the game had come to an end, the Lady Cyclones earned a 10-point win, 48-38.
The game was close in the opening half as Elizabethton took a 17-14 lead at the first horn and continued to work their way to a 26-22 advantage at the intermission.
Junior McKendra Norris took the lead rein and fired in eight first-half points to pace the Lady Cyclones. Norris knocked down two treys in the half. Kaylen Shell played a role in building the four-point lead as she dumped in five points in the first 16 minutes of play.
Elizabethton received four points apiece from Kelsie Winters and Morgan Headrick while Torrie Roberts and Kaitlin Bailey added two each.
Neither team had a sparkling third quarter as the Lady Cyclones did manage to hold Webb in check with only two points in the period while scoring nine points to extend their lead to 35-24.
Lina Lyon hit five points in the stanza to extend the lead.
Webb did manage to outscore the Lady Cyclones in the fourth period 14-13 but the damage had already been done by Elizabethton to secure the win.
Eight Lady Cyclones hit the scoring column led by Lyon with nine points. Norris and Shell finished the contest with eight points apiece.
A trio of Elizabethton players closed out the scoring log with six points as Winters, Headrick, and Bailey all finished with identical outputs.
Roberts finished out with three points while Cheyenne VanHuss added two points in the victory.
Madelyn Ladd led Webb with 10 points in the contest while Shae Berry added nine in the loss.
