Hampton – With every last bit of football in Carter County concluding last Saturday, all eyes in the community are turned toward the round ball.
Two teams, the Hunter Tigers and the Hampton Bulldogs, battled it out on the hardwood Thursday night.
It was the ladies that started things off leaving the boys to follow shortly afterward.
The Lady Tigers were able to get on the board first, but soon afterward it was Hampton who would go on a run to take a 14-3 lead after one.
The tempo was slowed down in the second quarter thanks to turnovers by both teams in the period. However, this didn’t stop the Lady Bulldogs as they would go into halftime cruising, 26-6.
In the third quarter, there was a combined total of ten points scored. Seven of those points were awarded to the Lady Tigers while Hampton was only able to rack up three, making the score going into the final period 29-13 in favor of the home team.
Even though the Lady Tigers began their comeback in the third period, it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bulldogs were able to apply pressure on defense resulting in a 33-13 victory for Hampton in the first game.
In the win, Taylor Berry led the Lady Bulldogs with nine points, while Piper Helle and Lindsay Hardin both followed with six.
On the other hand, Mattie Salyer put up four points to lead her team, while Jill Faust scored three in the Lady Tigers’ loss.
After the intermission, it was time for the boy’s teams from both schools to get underway.
The start of the second game seemed like the first as the Bulldogs were able to shut down the Tigers and end the quarter with a 21-1 edge.
The second quarter looked a lot like the first with Hampton putting up many more points than Hunter. As a result, the score going into the break was 39-3 in favor of the home team.
The final half of the boy’s contest was just a matter of the Bulldogs maintaining their lead while shutting down the Tigers as they had been doing all game long. The end result of the contest was 51-10 in favor of the Hampton Bulldogs.
En route to their victory, Hayden Campbell scored 15 points, Dylan Trivett finished with 13, and Geno Carrico dropped eight for the Bulldogs.
In the loss for the Hunter Tigers, Marcus Shomaker finished with four points, followed by Rylan Crabtree and Brynin Repass who finished with three and two points, respectively.
